Keen to get on with the Inside !!

Build it out of WHAT?

The interior design was basically a combination of me looking at other boats, deciding on what I did not have on the last boat and what I needed on this one, and generally trying to fit things in.

But the problem I was having was trying to decide on internal building materials - I fanicied a cored material ATL manufatures a product called Featherlight - a paper honeycomb cored material but delivery delays put me off this. There is a product around called Polycore, and the local supplier could supply. However they encountered production problems. In the end I bought the raw ploycore panels from my local supplier and vacuum bagged them myself. We bagged 440gm E-glass on one side and either 3mm plywood or a laminate panel on the other side.

Basic Construction Process

We started at the front of the boat and worked towards the stern, shower is the first section - easy no work in this section - then the toilet - one cabinet one side of the hull and another high up on the inboard side. I built the cabinets like this - cut out a panel of polycore to fit in the required hole - mark up on the panel where you want the doors - cut them out - I have a 18v de-walt circular saw for this. Route out the now exposed polycore - on both the door and door opening. I used Kiri timber and Q-Cells for the corners

Once the glue and filler has gone off the door / door opening can be sanded and the door made to fit and hinges fixed. Off you go with your trusty screwdriver and fasten the panel into the boat, fill up the gap with Q-Cells - forming a nice curve and once that has gone off its ready for further sanding and priming

Curves everywhere

I decided once I approached a full height cupboard that was going to be used to store diving equipment, well I would have a go at curving the panel. This is quite easy to achieve by cutting grooves in a panel and bending it over a template - filling the grooves with filler and topping off with a bit of glass - see side panel for a example of the first cupboard I built like this. Trouble is I got a bit carried away with bent panels and put them everywhere. It has taken me around 9 months from starting the fit to applying the top coat.
