Get some help

You can build your dream machine completely on your own, but there is lots of good reasons to get some help. It will be necessary to get some professional assistance at some time during the build. Even if its just for 240v installation or gas installation. So it makes sense to get someone right now, things move on faster, difficult jobs that need 3 hands are all of a sudden easy. 2 folks can roll twice as much resin as one person etc. In my over simplified view of things I simply say that in order to build a boat, one has to simply glue bits of wood or foam together while following a set of guidelines, namely engineering or design specifications. So following that logic, anyone with any practical skills can assist in the building.

The original plan was to enlist the help of someone who had helped with the previous boat, however due to health reasons this person was no longer available. I placed an advertisement in the local paper and had a few responses, and this seemed to work well. I think I have had around 8 to 10 different helpers so far to date.

At the moment (March 2009) I only have one person assisting, and he has been helping since the construction of the second hull started and am sure Kevin is in for the duration. Kevin usually does 1 to 3 days during the week and one day on the weekend. Update: (March 2010). Kevin is still helping and I have one other person, John helping. I found I was spending every second of my spare time sanding the interior of the boat, and was keen to start other things, but it was not possible. Solution - almost instant solution chuck in a ad in the local paper for more help. I had over 20 responses, John was to first to call up and he has worked out great. I do not know how much sandpaper John has worn out but its a lot. Sanding is about finished now, but he is a tallented guy and there is always something he can do.

How it works for me

Working together on a weekend I get as much done and sort of left unfinished so that Kevin and John can finish it off. If I think of anything when I am not on site - I simply call up on a night and let the guys know. I tend to leave going to the suppliers late in the week so if I have missed anything the guys can let me know.
It is very satisfying to return after a few days with new things put together, and other stuff that was not quite finished, well, actually finished.
